Harlem Globetrotters, etc

Unfortunately there are no pictures/videos to accompany this post.  Joshua has been anti-photos this week.  Monday was Joshua's first TOT class at his school.  Over the course of the school year he will learn ball handling skills of all sorts.  Rest assured the next generation of Harlem Globetrotters or maybe Starkvegas Globetrotters are being groomed in Starkville.  Joshua was introduced to a couple dribbling/bouncing skills that he has only shown us once and absolutely refused to show to the video camera.  Hopefully I can sneak a video in sometime soon.

At dinner tonight the following conversation occurred:
J: Dad look at these boo boos on my hand." (holding his hand up to show off two very tiny scrapes on his hand.
D:  "Oh, I see them."
J: "They are like Jesus' boo boos on his hand that he got because the soldiers nailed him to the cross."
D: "Well, I don't know if those boo boos are like Jesus' boo boos.  I think that scrape is a lot smaller than where Jesus had nails in his wrist."
J: "You're right.  And my boo boos don't even hurt.  But I bet Jesus' boo boos hurt him."
D: "I think you are right."

I have had a headache all day today.   In the car on the way home from dinner the following conversation occurred:
J: "Mama, why does your head hurt?"
A: "I don't really know.  It hasn't felt good all day."
J: "Mama, did you see the motorcycle.  And we saw a firetruck with a ladder.  I think the motorcycle was going down the road and maybe he was going to turn on the road by our house and go to our neighbor's house.  Do you see the motorcycle?  Oh Dad look, is that the motorcycle?  I don't know maybe it is a different one.  I remember the motorcycle at the Piggly Wiggly.  Wait no, not Piggly Wiggly, the Three Little Pig store where we eat sometimes.  You know what I mean mama?  I remember the motorcycle on a trailer behind a car there.  Do you remember that?  Look at that truck it looks like a monster truck with those big tires.  I think it really is a monster truck.  Wow, those are big tires.  There is the playground by our house.  Hello tiny baby on the playground.  Did you see the tiny baby on the playground?  Mama, why does your head hurt?"
A: "Well Joshua, I am beginning to have an idea."

Updates from earlier posts

In an earlier post I referenced Joshua being a ring bearer in name only for my cousin Trevor's wedding.  Below are a few of pictures from the wedding.  When Joshua saw the pictures he said, "That was when I cried and threw a fit at Trevor and Jessica's wedding isn't it?"

In other news Dave and I are still not getting much information on what happens at school.  Joshua consistently responds with "I don't want to tell you!" when asked what he did at school.  Every once in a while he will give a small nugget of information.  For example, today I learned that he was the "lunch helper" which means "I'm in charge of passing out napkins at lunch."  Joshua went on to explain, "But I wish I was the Caboose.  Because the Caboose is in charge of making sure everything goes ok when we are in a line and that is a good job to have, but not the door holder that is not a good job to have."  When asked why that wasn't a good job Joshua responded, "No, I don't want to tell you."  So when I find out the down side to being a door holder I'll pass that information along.

Joshua has been really showing off his temper again recently.  However, the tantrums are much shorter and even though there is a lot of screaming much less intense.  In the middle of a tantrum last Saturday morning the following exchange took place:
A: "Joshua, let's calm down and get a better attitude so we can have some fun today."
J: (while lying on the floor literally kicking his legs and beating his fists in the carpets) "NO, I DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANY FUN!"
A and D: Got really cracked up and could not stop laughing
J: Looked at us and got up and walked out of the room.
I'm happy to report that fun has been had by all since the fun embargo was announced.

Wacky Wednesday

Joshua started a new class last week.  He was bumped up a class and had to leave his longtime classmates to "go to a big boy room."  He instantly loved his class and his new teachers.  He comes home everyday exhausted and tells us very little about the day.  Most often he says, which shaking his finger, "no, I don't want to tell you!"  One of the highlights of the new class is Show and Tell every Friday.  Joshua immediately new what he wanted to take for his first Show and Tell....his Darth Vader mask, of course.  He somehow talked two other classmates into bringing masks for Show and Tell so "we can fight and play good guys and bad guys."  We didn't get a note home reporting Joshua hit anyone (at least not that day) so I guess things turned out ok.

The other day I was sitting in the living room talking to Dave when Joshua approached me carrying a foam sword.  The following conversation ensued:
J: "Mama, I'm a bad guy pirate and I chop, stab, and punch good pirates.  Look, I use this part of my sword to chop good pirates up into pieces (he says while chopping me), this part to stab the good pirates (he says while stabbing me with the point of the sword) and this part on the handle to punch you in the face (I'm sure you see where this was headed).
A: "Wow Joshua, who taught you about using a sword so many different ways?
J: "Dad" (Dave in the background smiling proudly at his son's sword fighting skills.)
A: "Oh, how nice of him.  Well, I think you should practice your bad guy pirate on dad and not me."
J: "Ok."

There is a reason we call it Camp Awesome!

We enjoyed several days at Camp Dawson Awesome this past week.  It was a perfectly timed get away that allowed us to enjoy each other and have a blast.
Joshua loved the pool (and his Spiderman goggles).
Luke loved the pool.

Abigail loved the pool too.

Coach and Nana also loved the pool.

In honor of the Olympics, Joshua and Abigal competed in several sporting events.  We were extra grateful for the "big room" at the camp so that these events could take place inside and not in the extreme heat.

There was actually very little arguing during the week.  We decided not to intervene in this arguement about Joshua's lack of enthusiasm for the Dance Party game Abigail was enjoying.

Joshua now thinks that he cannot get into the pool until he has first had a popcicle.

Luke is just chilling!

And then there is the slide.  Oh the slide...a little bit wobbly, a lot of fun.
Abigail was up first.

Not to be out done by his cousin, Joshua took a turn too.

Luke was not interest in the slide but we didn't want him to miss out on the memories.

This little boy shed many a tear as we packed our stuff and loaded the car.  "I don't want to leave Cmap Dawson.  I want to stay here and not go home."
My response: "I know Joshua, me too."
